Again in Singapore from Ise Shima Japan
First of all, I would like to thank the Japan embassy of Singapore to allow us to have our event again in such a beautiful location, Japan Creative Center Singapore.
Our annual pearl jewellery competition “The Grand Prix Akoya Pearl Jewellery in lse Shima” was conceptualised to share the beauty of Akoya pearls with the world, and this is its 4th consecutive year. A total of 92 pearl jewellery items from 10 countries were received.
This year’s theme is “Connection”. Each of our lives is like a pearl necklace, made up of different moments. Each moment or memory, shines as bright as a pearl with a different luster and colour. Through the competition and exhibition, we hope we can connect You and Pearls, lse Shima and the world.
Ise Shima is the birthplace of cultured pearls. In late 19 century, Akoya oysters were first cultivated in Ise Shima, establishing a method to create beautiful round pearls. This technique for pearl cultivation contributed to the growth of the pearl industry worldwide.
Cultured Pearl Cultivation is a 100% sustainable form of aquaculture, requiring several years to produce a single Akoya pearl. While only 28% of cultivated pearls will be made into jewelry, the rest of the pearls will be crushed into powder and used for cosmetics and medicines. The oysters are recycled into fertilizer or fish food. The shells will be used to make buttons.
We are now facing the difficulties, including declining numbers of experienced pearl farmers and global warming. In fact, Akoya pearl production has declined 80% in the last two years alone. These factors make luxury pearl jewellery production and design even more challenging for the industry.
After I took over my family business, Pearl FALCO, I never believed that running a business would be this difficult. I thought that the future is only realised with change. But its never be easy. Of course, I want to increase the awareness of my company. But, i think the realisation is we all need to work together. If we care about each other, we can do something greater together. I do believe in the good in people. I do believe that we want to help each other but are scared of climbing up a mountain alone. But thanks to all of your help, I am here today. So I won’t give up and I am willing to try and I hope we overcome the fears together.
Back to business, Pearl FALCO, I notice that not many people know how to differentiate quality of pearl nor the real value of each pearl. It’s not only quality and trust that we want to show the world. Our mission is to pass our knowledge of pearls globally, with the many stories, love and devotion behind each creation of pearl jewelry.
I think “caring” is human’s nature. I care about my business. I care about my products that I sell and try to give the best quality. I care about the friendships i create with my customers.
Jewelry is not purely “art”. It’s Family, it’s Love, it’s Connection….
We will continously do our best to share the beauty of pearls with the world. And we are excited to see the wonderful pieces in the Grand Prix Akoya Pearl Jewellery Ise Shima 2022.
