Announcing the Winners of The Grand Prix of Akoya Pearl Jewellery 2024
Celebrating Vision, Craftsmanship, and the Timeless Beauty of Akoya Pearls
The much-anticipated results of The Grand Prix of Akoya Pearl Jewellery 2024 are finally here. This annual competition celebrates excellence in Akoya pearl jewellery design and recognizes the creativity and dedication of designers from around the world. After months of public voting and careful evaluation by our esteemed panel of judges, we are excited to reveal this year’s outstanding winners.
Akoya pearls are known for their simple, graceful beauty. Their charm lies not in loudness, but in their quiet, luminous presence. Because of this, bold or overly complex designs can sometimes overshadow their true elegance.
However, this year’s award-winning creations strike a beautiful balance — they enhance and highlight the natural beauty of Akoya pearls without overpowering them. Each piece is thoughtfully crafted to allow the pearls to speak for themselves, standing out in simplicity and authenticity.
Award Winners of The Grand Prix 2024

Pearl Award – Ocean and Fish
Miki Takahashi, Japan
With traditional Japanese Seigaiha (blue ocean wave) pattern engraving, this pendant reflects the deep connection between the ocean and life. More than a beautiful design, it reminds us of our shared responsibility to preserve the ocean—the origin of all pearls—for generations to come.
This special award is given to the creation that best reflects the unique characteristics and natural elegance of Akoya pearls. Miki Takahashi’s piece was a poetic tribute to the sea and the craftsmanship that brings each pearl to life.
Jury Award –The Garland
Kimnay Hor, Cambodia
Created by a design student from Cambodia, this ear cuff is inspired by the delicate garland of jasmine—a symbol of Asian culture and fleeting beauty. With hopes of preserving these cultural expressions and passing on the future, the piece impressed the jury with its depth of meaning and contemporary form.
Recognised by our distinguished panel of judges, Kimnay Hor’s design impressed with its bold narrative, technical precision, and emotional depth. The piece masterfully blended modern aesthetics with traditional Japanese pearl culture.

Good Design Award –KAN-ZASHI PENDANT
Kimi Jensen, USA
This piece draws inspiration from the traditional kanzashi (Japanese hair ornament), transforming it into a modern, versatile pendant. With delicate lines and a quiet presence, it gracefully blends Japanese aesthetics with universal wearability, representing diversity and inviting pearls into everyday life beyond formal occasions.
Awarded for her elegant and forward-thinking design, Kimi Jensen’s piece captured the essence of contemporary artistry while staying true to the timeless beauty of Akoya pearls. Her work stood out for its balance of innovation and sophistication
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and express our deepest appreciation to every designer who participated. Your dedication and vision continue to elevate the artistry of Akoya pearl jewellery.
