Pearl FALCO is currently helmed by Maiko Makito who took the reins from her father after resigning from a MNC in 2016. Since taking over, Maiko’s vision for the business is to tell the tale of her hometown to the world and pass her knowledge of pearls to the future generations, with the many stories and people’s love and devotion behind each piece of pearl jewellery.

Maiko’s Challenge
Maiko, inspired by her hometown of Ise Shima—the birthplace of Akoya pearls—has dedicated herself to celebrating and preserving the rich history of cultured pearls. She founded the annual “Grand Prix of Akoya Pearl Jewelry” in Asia and leads Pearl Appreciation Workshops to educate both enthusiasts and industry experts. Currently, Maiko is producing the Pearl Legacy Project, a documentary that highlights the artistry, traditions, and people behind cultured pearls.
At the core of her mission is Pearl FALCO’s “Pearl of HOPE Project,” a charitable initiative that has provided tuition assistance to children across Asia for over 30 years, promoting education and opportunities for the next generation.
